On the Costa Blanca, the Church of England initially was based north of
Alicante and by 1986, six centres had been formed. The development
to the south was somewhat slower. Places of worship were established
at La Siesta, Campoverde and Mil Palmeras, in the Torrevieja area.
The services then were covered by Non Stipendiary Ministers (NSM)
and Lay Assistants. Through the efforts of Geoffrey Wakeham, who
having been a Lay Reader previously, became the Priest-in-Charge,
after his Ordination in Gibraltar. He, along with the Church
Council, developed six centres, being - La Marina, La Siesta, Los
Balcones, Lago Jardin, Campoverde and La Manga. Geoffrey continued
in his role until retirement in 2001.
In June 2000 the Chaplaincy of St Peter and St Paul was consecrated and
the first paid part-time Chaplain inducted - the Reverend Robin
Johnson, who remained in post for three years.
In 2003, due to the continuing increase of people attending our services, our first full-time Chaplain, the Revd. Colin McCormack was appointed.
In November 2008, after serving the Chaplaincy faithfully for over four years, Fr Colin decided it was time to move on and resigned his position on 30th November. The current Chaplain was appointed in September 2009
